Small Group- We are plugging along on our Knights and Castles chapter book. We have completed 4 chapters and are now taking some time to go back and pull information from each chapter to make small mini-books. The mini-books go along with different read strands. We are making charts about the different jobs that people had during that time. The ones we are looking at the most are the people who are in charge of building castles. Those jobs are blacksmiths, masons, carpenters and apprentices. We also have learned a lot about Lords and Ladies. We have learned about what they wear, what their different jobs are and how they are supposed to act.
Spelling- This week we worked on frequent spelling patterns for /s/. They are s, ss, ce, ci and cy.
Writing- This week we did some revising on our letters to Santa. We are really working on writing sentences properly with a capital letter at the beginning and a punctuation mark at the end. We are also really working on spelling our third grade core words correctly all of the time.
Math- We have continued to review all of the multiplication strategies and skills that we have learned. Skip counting songs have all been learned, and we are about to start flash cards. I will send home a detailed explanation on flashcards the week we get back. Students will have homework each night in math to practice their facts.
Social Studies- We have worked on distance scales this week in social studies. This is usually a harder concept for students to understand so we have done it many different ways. When we get back from break we are going to start ending our unit with talking about product maps and features that are found on a map to show different land forms.
Have a wonderful Break!!
