Language Arts- Our pioneer unit is officially over. You will have to talk to your students about how it ended for their wagon trains. We ended this unit with a piece of persuasive writing. We wrote letters to a friend or family member back where we started our journey from and persuaded them to either take the trail like we did to come and live with us or NOT to take the chance and come out West. Students have done a phenomenal job with this writing activity. Next week we will give some guest bloggers the opportunity to share their work with all of you.
We started our introduction to the last unit of the school year: The History of Lake Geneva. We will be studying all about where we live and what it was like when it was first discovered and settled. Students will be learning a lot in preparation for our field trip next Friday. We will take a walking tour of some important historical landmarks in Lake Geneva, as well as going on a boat tour with the Lake Geneva Cruise Line.
Math- We have continued to work in math this week with telling time. We have learned and played some great games to help reinforce our skills. Some things that we still need to work on is telling time to the quarter hour and half hour. We've been getting confused with quarter after and quarter to. :) We also found some great iPad games to play. One of them we will feature next week on our blog!!
Technology- We have gotten back into the swing of things with our technology classes and we are well on our way with our end of the year project. Students have been making pioneer pictures of their journey since we started. They have painted them on the computer using a program called Paint Brush. We have taught the students how to use Movie Maker, and they have imported their pictures, made special effects and then added their own voices to tell their pioneer story. We should have our first round down early next week! I know they are all super excited to see the finished product.
