Language Arts- In our reading groups we have continued to work on comprehension and summaries of the stories that we are reading. We have also started to do some comparing and contrasting with various stories (and chapter books) about characters, setting and plot. Students should be able to tell similarities and differences between these things in order to correctly compare them.
Math- We have started unit 2 in math. Our first unit tests went wonderfully! Students had the opportunity to bring them home to show you and fix last weekend. I was very proud of students and the effort that they put forth. We are still working on multiplication concepts. This week and next will focus on 6s, 7s and 8s as well as area and story problems. **Next week there will only be class assignments completed during the day due to WKCE testing. Students will not have any math homework brought home.
Writing- We are working on writing personal narratives right now in writing. We've read several personal narratives, done some comparing and contrasting of the different stories, and are now starting to write a few of our own. Personal narratives often include dialogue or someone talking so we're really going to focus on putting that into our stories.
Field Trip- Today we went to UW-Whitewater for a field trip to see a play. Students had a great time, and we are excited to share with you what we thought of the play. We're going to be writing mini-reviews on the production!
WKCE Testing- Next week the third graders will be taking their first ever state WKCE test. I sent home information for you to read and look at over the weekend to help talk to your child about this test. Our schedule will look different next week, but we will still be getting in a lot of learning and great discussion. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the test please let me know! That's what I'm here for.
End of the Quarter- Today is the last day of 1st quarter! Where has the time gone???? I will be sending home AR reports today, however any test that students took today will not be printed. I will send home a final Q1 report early next week for you to see how your child did this quarter and also talk about goals for second quarter.
