Today marks the end of the first quarter. I look forward to meeting with all of you in the next 2 weeks for parent/teacher conferences! :) Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you for all of your help getting library books to school by Thursday this week. We had 100% handed in and ready to go for our library time on Friday. We will continue this pattern for the rest of the school year.
Thanks for getting your students to school well rested and with full belly. We completed our 6 sessions of WKCE testing on Thursday of this week. Students worked so hard, and were very positive and confident with their work. We rewarded them with a special treat this afternoon. Popcorn and a movie! :)
Today is the last day of the quarter. I will send home the usual AR report on Monday next week so you can see how your student ended the quarter. Don't forget you can access this information online as well if you want to check before. I have some students still taking quizzes on our class read aloud today, so I figured it would be best to wait until Friday was done before I sent home reports. Next week we will be starting from scratch again with new levels, new goals, and weekly reports coming home on Friday. I will have new AR progress reports for you at conferences so you can see progress from the beginning of the year.
With WKCE testing this week taking up our whole morning, we focused on non-fiction reading when we were given the chance here and there through the week. We are still focused on main ideas and details, and we will test on this unit at the end of next week before we move on. Daily 5 will start again next week, as well as spelling.
This week our math focus was on geometry. We finished our traveling and then focused a lot on angles. Students learned 3 types of angles. A right angle, and obtuse angle, and an acute angle. We also talked about being able to name shapes with different names other than their shape name. For example a rectangle can be a polygon, an irregular polygon, a parallelogram, a quadrilateral, and a plane figure. We will assess on Monday with geometry terms and angles.
Tests for science are being sent home today for you to take a look at. Please sign and return so we can keep them in the flex folder for reference.
After Thanksgiving break we will conduct science/social studies different to allow for more math instruction and math intervention time. Your student will still get both science and social studies however they will no longer be going to Mrs. Steier for social studies time. We will have technology on Monday, then focus on a social studies concept Tuesday-Thursday for several weeks. When the social studies concept is complete then we will move on to a science concept. We will continue to teach science and social studies in this manner bouncing back between concepts through the school year. We will also incorporate science and social studies in our reading block for added instruction. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Student Council will be hosting their 6th Annual food drive next week. If you have any non-perishable food items to donate we would greatly appreciate it. All items will be donated to the Pell Lake Food Pantry
Casa Mia “Giving Tree”
Star Center Students will once again be donating coins for our Casa Mia Christmas Gifts. Casa Mia is a residential assisted living facility in Pell Lake, WI, that assists adults with disabilities. They support the residents in independent living and offer daily support services. We are asking each child to bring in one quarter to attach to their classroom’s “Giving Tree”. The trees will be collected at the end of November and the money collected will be used to purchase Christmas gifts for Casa Mia residents! Please have your child bring in their quarter as soon as possible.
