Newsletters: Each week I will write a newsletter. I would love to email it to as many people as I can. If you haven’t already told me that is ok, please do so! Just jot a note in the agenda. Hopefully after next week I can start emailing updates and reminders to you if you wish to receive information that way.
Agenda/Flex Folder- Your student has been using their agenda and flex folder daily now since the first day of school. It’s important that they learn to put papers where they belong so that we always know where they are. Also we’ve been practicing filing out our homework each night. Please take time to make sure homework is done. With your student in 3rd grade now, working on independence is important. We remind them daily that it is becoming their responsibility to do their work and get their agenda signed by you, not your responsibility. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Snack- There is a time for snack each day in 3rd grade. Most often we snack while we work. Your student is responsible for bringing in their own healthy snack each day if they want one. We’ve talked about what we need to fuel our bodies with to learn during the day, and healthy choices are the best. Candy, chips and other ‘treat’ options will be saved for special occasion days or for a dessert at lunch.
Birthday Celebrations- We love to celebrate birthdays! We will celebrate everyone in our class, even if they have a summer birthday. In the case of a summer birthday we will celebrate their ½ birthday. You are always welcome to bring in a treat to celebrate a birthday. Please check in with me to double check for numbers of students and possible allergies. We could have students move in and out anytime during the year.
Specials- Our specials schedule is as follows:
*All library books are due back on Thursday to ensure enough time to check books back in for our library class on Friday morning.
Bentin Bucks- Your student will have the opportunity to earn and lose Bentin Bucks in the classroom. It is our class money system that we will use thorough the year to keep us practicing money. They can earn money by making great choices, doing their homework and doing their classroom job. They can lose money if they aren’t making a great choice, or have to leave the class during a learning time. Each student has started with $25 in their bank account. From there it is up to them to build it up. The will have the opportunity to buy things from the Bentin Store several times a year. They are very excited about this and I’m sure can’t wait to share it with you.
Calendar Quizzes- Looking for something extra to do? Students work extremely hard each school day and sometimes will and will not have homework. Sending home extra worksheets isn’t always the answer to keep our brains working. Each month I will send home calendar quizzes. They are OPTIONAL, but something fun you could do at home with your student for extra learning. Calendar quizzes are fun questions that go along with the month that we are in. They might highlight a holiday, famous person, sporting event or more. They are due by the end of the month if you choose to complete them. Just make sure they are handed in with a name on them. Students can earn Bentin Bucks for completing them too.
